The Mommy McBangmaid Classic: “AIO my boyfriend told me I’m not “wife material” because I don’t cook like his mom”

https://www.reddit.com/r/AmIOverreacting/comments/1mzrj65/aio_my_boyfriend_told_me_im_not_wife_material/

4rtem499 So I (f27) was making dinner for my boyfriend (m29) last night. It wasn’t anything fancy, just pasta with homemade sauce, salad, garlic bread. Halfway through the meal he says, “This is good, but you’ll never be wife material until you can cook like my mom.” I literally froze. I asked what that meant, and he doubled down saying, “Well, she cooks everything from scratch, three courses, homemade dessert, it’s just… different.” I told him it was rude to compare me to his mom and that if he wanted her food, he should go eat at her place. Now he’s mad, saying I “overreacted” and that he was just being “honest about standards.” I genuinely feel disrespected. Am I overreacting for thinking that was completely inappropriate to say to someone you supposedly love?

Top reply:
whatthewhat3214 Start calling him Oepidus and tell him he should go back to living with his mom bc he's not ready for an adult relationship, which is supposed to be a partnership.

And tell him HE'S welcome to cook everything from scratch if he wants. Tell him he's incredibly sexist to think that's your job, there's nothing stopping him from cooking like this if that's the kind of food he wants.

And then after you pack your things to leave him, on the way out the door tell him to remember the year is 2025, and women have better things to do than wait on a man like it's the 19th century. That microwaves and meal shortcuts and other modern conveniences were invented so women didn't have to spend a majority of their days slaving over a hot stove and keeping up a house (I'm guessing he expects you to do that too) and doing all the childcare like indentured domestic servants. Tell him to grow up and stop acting like a boy who needs and expects his partner to act like his mom and take care of him. What exactly does he do to take care of you, right?

Reddit manbaby is a big boy!! So ofc he wants a "big boy" meal of pizza rolls and waffle fries!! 😡😡😡 Made by his wife ofc!! (Big boys can't microwave their own pizza rolls, that's outrageous. 🥺🥺)

"AIO husband called food I made shit then had me make him different food"

https://reddit.com/r/AmIOverreacting/comments/1ojzbuc/aio_husband_called_food_i_made_shit_then_had_me/

RealisticShape8751 So for reference I (f24) made my husband (m25) Dino nuggets and tater tots for dinner. We haven’t gone grocery shopping yet and we’re hitting the end of our food right now so he wanted a quick dinner.

He was visibly upset when I told him what I was making. He said it’s bad food and why can’t I make him something that’s actually good. I thought to myself ‘okay that’s understandable I guess let me have him pick something better’.

Tell me why this man pulls out pizza rolls and waffle fries.

He claims that is a ‘real meal’ over the Dino nuggets and tater tots. In my brain these two meals are basically the same. Both quick kid foods. I told him he’s rude as fuck for shitting on the dinner I made him then proceeding to have me make a very similar dinner.

This argument was not a very serious one but he did make me slightly angry by having me make a new dinner. On top of all of that he asked for dinner as soon as I put our son down to bed instead of asking when I was making our son dinner so I was already tired. I ate with our son which was Mac and cheese with hot dogs cut up (again quick easy dinner with what we had left). That wasn’t good enough for my husband either.

Also who doesn’t like Dino nuggets? Crazy people. He also claimed the Dino’s were burnt and they indeed are not.

I want to add that I usually make pretty good big dinners but we’re lacking on meat right now and we got home late from running errands so no time to shop and cook before bedtime.

“AITAH for not stopping my home massage to help husband soothe baby”

Ok-Professional-6632 Last week, my husband was away for a work trip, and I had to mostly take care of our baby alone. I have wanted to get a massage for weeks and now that he is back, we decided that I should get home service massage while he takes care of the baby for 1.5 hours. Unfortunately, while I was having the massage in our bedroom, the baby kept crying and started throwing a tantrum, refusing to nap. For the duration of the massage, my husband kept sending passive aggressive messages, insinuating that I should stop and help him. Knowing that I needed the break, I continued the session. My husband blamed me for not stopping the massage afterwards, saying that I abandoned him. Was I wrong to continue the massage? I did not think a crying baby constituted an emergency and thought that if I had stopped, it would mean my need for rest is less important.

AITAH for not stopping my massage to help my husband soothe our baby?

What the hell did I just read https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoXChromosomes/comments/1vlemd7/i_need_some_married_women_to_tell_me_im_not/

I need some married women to tell me I'm not fucking insane because WHAT IS THIS EVENING by Responsible_Bar_5621 Okay. So tomorrow is my birthday.

I've been sick, I'm still recovering, I'm exhausted, I don't have much appetite and honestly I didn't want some massive birthday production. I just wanted a nice day, maybe some dinner and a birthday cake.

Simple.

Apparently not.

Earlier today my husband was being a complete fucking dickhead to our son. I'm not going to write the entire saga because we'd be here all night, but it really upset me.

I got sad and reacted because I was hurt watching him treat our kid that way.

Later he tells me that the way I reacted hurt HIS feelings.

Okay.

Fine.

Your feelings are valid. Mine were apparently just the opening act.

Whatever. We can talk about it.

BUT THEN WE GET TO THE CAKE.

My husband was actually supposed to make my birthday cake. That was the plan.

Except it's now 7pm and there is no cake.

And I'm thinking, okay, he's working tomorrow and taking our kid to jiu-jitsu, so by the time all that's done tomorrow it's going to be way too late to start making a fucking birthday cake.

So I say, basically:

"Never mind, I'll just make the cake myself. There's literally no time for you to do it tomorrow."

Apparently THAT offended him.

So I'm like okay, fine.

"You can make it tonight."

He says, "I can make it tonight."

Great.

Problem solved.

So I start looking for the fucking recipe.

I AM ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR THE CAKE RECIPE.

And this man decides THIS is the appropriate moment to start talking about his feelings again.

He's telling me he didn't like the way I reacted earlier.

I'm literally trying to find a cake recipe and I'm like:

"I can't deal with this right now, I'm looking for the cake recipe."

And he says:

"But I'm trying to tell you how I feel."

And something in my brain just fucking snapped.

I said:

**"So you want me to cater for your feelings now?"**

He says no.

So I ask:

"Then what is it?"

And...

Nothing.

Then he says he needs a nap.

?????????

IT IS 7PM.

So now he's downstairs "taking a nap" while looking at his phone, and I'm getting myself ready, making sure our kid is okay, and WALKING TO THE FUCKING GROCERY STORE TO BUY THE INGREDIENTS.

FOR THE CAKE.

THAT HE WAS SUPPOSED TO MAKE.

FOR MY BIRTHDAY.

At this point I don't even want the fucking cake.

The cake can go fuck itself.

Honestly, my husband can also go fuck himself, respectfully.

And the best part is I'm STILL buying groceries because obviously our kid needs dinner and I need to prep his school lunch for tomorrow.

So I'm walking around Woolies doing Mum shit while internally having a complete fucking existential crisis over a birthday cake.

And I've reached the point where I'm like...

You know what?

Once I put my kid to bed tonight, I'm going out.

Not dramatically.

Not to leave my husband.

Not to make anyone jealous.

I just want to GO SOMEWHERE.

I want to find an all-women's bar, sit down, order something, and talk absolute shit with other women.

I want to complain about husbands.

I want someone to tell me their husband once pissed them off so badly they considered putting him on Marketplace.

I want someone to say "GIRL, SAME."

I want to laugh.

I want to remember that I am a person and not just someone's wife and someone's mum and apparently the fucking birthday cake department.

I don't even want advice.

I genuinely just want to know that other married women have had evenings where they've stood in a grocery store thinking:

"How the fuck did this become my problem?"

Because right now I'm approximately one minor inconvenience away from buying myself a supermarket cupcake, sticking a candle in it, and declaring the entire birthday cake situation officially cancelled.

Anyway.

Thanks for coming to my fucking TED Talk.

P.S pardon my swearing
