Congrats to Ms. Higgins for making history. I wish her well. Miami seems like a complicated city for anyone to be mayor of, and being a Democratic mayor in a Republican-led state will make things that much more complicated. I admire anyone who wants to take on that much responsibility.
How did she manage to win, when no woman had won before and no Democrat had won in 30 years? Broad outreach, basically. She has a common-sense approach about representing and serving everyone, not just those who have the same party affiliation she does. More on her strategy:
